db Silversmith Designs

by Diane Smith

About Diane Smith:

My name is Diane Smith and I work in my home studio in the picturesque town of Port Perry, Ontario handcrafting sterling silver jewellery using traditional silversmithing and chainmaking techniques.

For pendants, necklaces, bracelets and earrings I cut, sand and polish sterling silver sheet and wire into various designs. To achieve more detailed designs and heavier pieces I use ''lost-wax'' casting, and silver metal clay. Metal clay consists of fine particles of pure silver that are suspended in an organic binder, and once fired in a kiln the binder burns away to leave a 99.9% pure silver piece. I also make many of my own components, including ear hooks and clasps.

All my chainmail designs utilize my own hand-wound and hand-cut jump rings which are woven into different traditional patterns. The finished piece is then tumbled to harden and polish the silver.

For some designs I incorporate semi-precious stones and handmade glass lampwork beads.

Every woman has her own personal style and jewellery is a
unique opportunity to express her inner being.
