GARDENS OF MEMORIES

A Retrospective Collection

Dorothea Wiese – Lindsay

Landscapes, portraits, florals and surreal dream images captured in watercolour and acrylic paintings.

Artist Biography

Dorothea Weise, a German-educated designer, worked commercially for over ten years in Germany, and later in Toronto.

A full time artist for over 30 years, she employs a variety of painting techniques, styles and medium - from watercolours, which can be realistic or interpretive, oil and acrylic canvasses, to detailed paper etchings - in a variety of subjects, from delicate floral fantasies of Earth, Sky, Water and Fire Elements.

Dorothea has exhibited in solo exhibitions and group shows, winning many awards. She is represented in private collections through Canada, USA, Japan and Europe.

Artist’s Statement

As a child in wartime Germany, I played in industrial rubble in a coal mining region.  Everywhere I looked, I could only see black and stark grey since the area was totally devoid of the bright, beautiful colours of nature. The local cemetery was our park where we attempted to decorate and beautify the surroundings.

Childhood experience made indelible impressions on me and strongly influenced the direction of my artistic career.  Later in life, with exposure to much natural beauty in Canada, my affection for lively colours, interesting light and shapes was ignited.  Every colour

has a different vibration and each expresses a different emotion.  For example, brighter colour combinations make us feel light and happy, while darker earth colours tend to stablize our feelings and make us more earthbound.
