Judith K. Brown
Free Form Pottery
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Judith is a comparatively new potter. She was hooked on pots from her first introductory pottery class. She avidly learned whatever she could about clay, glazes, and colourants, and has organized vacations around workshops and classes in Ontario, Central America and Europe.
Most of her pieces are free form pottery -- that is, shaped by hand, not using a wheel.
The platters and serving dishes feature decorative patterns and textures.
If some of the patterns look familiar, it is because Judith has imprinted vintage doilies made by family members from earlier generations and the bottoms of her grandmother’s crystal bowls. The colours have been selected to enhance the textured pattern on each piece.
Being a former Manager in Information Services with a major oil company before her retirement, Judith has put her organizational skills to good use by launching an invitational, multi-media art show and sale called From Earth to Art in the spring of 2011.
The 2012 show will be held at the Lindsay Inn on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28.
Judith has participated in the Kawartha Potters Guild Juried Winter Sale from 2003 to 2010, Artists for Rotary Fine Art Show & Sale, 2004-2006, FUSION Presents Ontario, 2006,2008; Burnt River Art Show in 2010, From Earth to Art, Lindsay and the Valentia Art Festival in 2011
