Artist Biography

Kevin Joyce was born in 1966 in Toronto.  In his early years, he would often go on sketching trips along the Rouge Valley in Scarborough.  Kevin’s gift became apparent early on.  He won a third and first place awards at the Canadian National Exhibition at just 15 and 16 years old respectively.  Two artists who inspired Kevin growing up were the late Canadian artist, Ken Danby, and American graphite artist, Paul Calle.

Unfortunately, after the tragic drowning death of his brother Rodney, Kevin didn’t pick up a pencil or brush for nearly two decades until 2006 when he joined the Muskoka Arts & Crafts.

He has quickly made his mark in the arts community.  His graphite drawing titled ‘Aging Gracefully’ won an Award of Excellence at the 2007 Muskoka Arts & Crafts Spring Members Show.  He also took second place overall at Kempenfest Arts & Crafts Festival in Barrie that same year.  In 2008, he was one of 41 artists from across Canada selected for the McMichael Gallery’s annual fundraising auction.  In 2010, he received special recognition for two graphite drawings entered in the 11th Annual International Realism Exhibition featured on a juried online art exhibition website www.UpstreamPeopleGallery.com

Kevin exhibits in several art shows during the summer months, including the Kawartha Arts Festival in Fenelon Falls.  He is a member of Muskoka Arts & Crafts.  Kevin occasionally accepts commission work when time permits. He also works in oil, acrylics and watercolours.

Artist's Statement

"My purpose of the Lost and Found exhibit is to share my love of the rural landscape of Ontario and to record in graphite the early architectural heritage found throughout the province.  Many of the buildings and relics have disappeared from the Ontario landscape since I have drawn them."
