Photo: CKL Councillor Donna Villemaire, Chair of Kawartha Conservation, congratulated the artists and thanked the Lindsay Gallery at the Opening Reception of the Kawartha Wetlands exhibit on October 28.
This exhibit is a first for the Lindsay Gallery - partnering with Kawartha Conservation - to focus an art exhibit on wetlands in three conservation areas -- Ken Reid, Windy Ridge and Pigeon River Headwaters.
Wetlands Presentation in Conjunction with Exhibit
For this exhibit, The Lindsay Gallery partnered with Kawartha Conservation whose staff showed the Milner's their wetland properties in September 2009. Since then, the Milners have been painting and photographing in various locations in each season preparing for this Wetlands Exhibit.
Two free presentations will be made in the Gallery on the topic of Wetlands by Rob Stavinga, Kawartha Conservation Watershed Resources Technician on November 2 at 1:30 and 7 pm. His presentation will include a brief history of wetlands in Ontario, the types and amount of wetland cover in the Kawartha Conservation watershed, how wetlands function, and why we need to protect our wetlands. His presentation will be illustrated by additional photographs by Kathleen Milner as well as the paintings and photographs in the exhibit.
Wetlands Presentations are being held Tuesday, November 2 at 1:30 and 7pm

Artists' Statement
"We were honoured in August 2009 to be invited by the Lindsay Gallery to create an exhibit on the theme of Four Seasons in the Kawartha Conservation Watershed.
Over the past year, we have spent many enjoyable hours putting together a body of work in paintings and photographs, bringing to life the natural beauty and changing face of the Kawartha wetlands.
We have attempted to show the beauty and diversity of three of the conservation areas in the Kawartha watershed - Ken Reid, Windy Ridge and Pigeon River Headwaters. We particularly wanted to highlight the most fragile areas. There's so much to enjoy and protect for future generations.
Our thanks to the knowledgeable and personable Kawartha Conservation staff for their assistance and support throughout this challenging but extra special project."
- Robert and Kathleen Milner
