BOTANTICAL MAGIC

My Passion for Flowers and Fairies

 Pamela Meacher – Port Perry

Watercolour paintings keep the rich tradition of the Victorian Arts and Crafts Movement alive.

Artist’s Statement

I am a passionate painter of primarily native botanical landscapes that sometimes can be inhabited by faeries, goblins and pixies.  This genre harkens back to the Victorian sensibilities that represent a visual legacy for the rich tradition from the ‘Arts and Crafts Movement’

‘MY CALL IS DEEP, MY CALL IS STRONG,

IT WILL NOT LET ME SLEEP TOO LONG.’

Pamela, a master painter and author, had exposure to the profound mysteries and beauty of the natural world as a child in England. This helped her form a deep appreciation for flowers and faeries. Pamela’s botanical watercolours often include birds, butterflies and woodland sprites, which harkens back to the Victorian Arts and Crafts movement thus evoking a sense of innocence and calm.

She studied ceramic sculpture in Montreal and Interior Design at McGill University. She took time away from art exploration to get married and have her children. Later, Pamela took oil painting classes at Carlton University, Ottawa, and Life studies at Seneca College, Toronto.   Pamela’s skills as a watercolour artist grew through workshops given by Jack Reid of Toronto and Carl Brenders of Belgium. She has spent a lifetime honing her skills with singular dedication to her chosen art form.

Pamela paints botanical and botanically-styled works of native flora on 100% rag paper. There are times the faeries mischievously pop themselves into her paintings.  These paintings contain the mystery of an almost unseen world, a reminder of the magic and awe she felt as a child. Pamela believes there is a part of us that should never really grow up.

As one of the founding members of the Canadian Wildflower Society, Pamela was responsible for their original logo. She is also is a member of the Botanical Artists of Canada and the American Society of Botanical Artists. She is a Member of Scugog Council for the Arts and Pine Ridge Arts Association.

Pamela has now added author, illustrator and publisher to her accomplishments. The first book, Emily’s Enchanted Guardians was successfully launched in 2006, winning a Moonbeam Children’s Book bronze award for illustration in the U.S.A.  Her second book, Emily’s Perils and Poisons, garnered a Gold medal again from Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards for her exquisite illustrations.

Pamela’s art works, both originals and limited edition reproductions, are collected from as far away as Australia, Japan, United Kingdom, United States of America and across Canada by both the private and the corporate worlds.
