"The Extraordinary Journey Continues " - Barbara McGivern

September 15 to October 20

Dance of the Jumblies
"Dance of the Jumblies" by Barbara McGivern

The large, boldly-coloured canvasses of Barbara McGivern promise to create a dramatic impact for all visitors to our Gallery during this exciting exhibit.

Artist’s Statement: “This series of paintings started after a gruelling eight-day, 3,000-mile driving trip through the sparsely populated Empty Quarter, a desert that lies between Saudi Arabia and Oman. My route retraced the trek British adventurer, William Thesiger, made by camel more than 50 years ago. It continues to inspire me ten years later. In fact, it has resulted in creating what has become ‘my signature style’.

I found the dunes to be a magical place with colours that I never thought could be possible in such a vastness of sand. My paintings are pictorial dramas, sometimes turbulent and sublime, while at other times, placid and pastoral.

The abstract paintings which, especially through gold leaf, acknowledge both the cultural history of gold and the landscape. The dominant motif in these otherwise acrylic paintings are clusters of gold leaf squares. Plays with contrast, articulate the tension occurring when cultural and natural forms are integrated for several reasons”. Barbara McGivern

The opening for this show is on Saturday, September 15, 1 - 3 pm. Barbara McGivern will be on hand to meet and to answer any questions.
