Artist Statement

As a child, I drew. I drew and drew and drew. I drew of mountains and nature and landscapes that I had never seen. I felt a deep kinship with the earth. It was a natural as breathing. Sadly, as I grew I lost touch with this spiritual connection. Then one day I watched my young daughter as she sensed her connection to the trees, the earth. She stood there as though she was part of the wind. The leaves were her instruments; she was at one with nature. It began a metamorphous in me. I want to keep my work as fresh, as innocent as her feelings. I try to portray the essence of the earth, the land. Of its inhabitants, it’s instincts. It’s spirituality. This exhibit provides a glimpse into a forest full of movement, motion, and dance. You have just peeked between the branches and caught a secret moment. Feel the wind in the trees, hear the music, and experience the dance."

Biography

Working in a variety of mediums Cathy continues to expand her creative boundaries. By utilizing materials not commonly used as paint or canvas Cathy develops exciting art forms reflecting her unique interpretations of nature. Educated in fine art and design Cathy lives with her family on the north shore of Lake Scugog. She interacts with nature on a daily basis providing continuous inspiration. Her initial journey into mixed media began with slate and chalk pastels. The mediums marry to produce virtually glowing results. Her mild steel sculptures continue to develop a life of their own. By adding pigments to the steel a new dimension has evolved. Ever expanding and growing the various art forms compliment and reflect each other. Her goal is to create art that evokes an emotional connection with the viewer. Joy, humor, peace, serenity or reflection can be found within the subject matter, colour and composition of her work.
