Woodturning
Morris Young

Despite never having had any formal training in woodturning, Morris purchased his first lathe in 2001 and he began turning and experimenting with different woods. In the summer of 2002 he met some members of the Kawartha Woodturners’ Guild at a local craft show who convinced him to join the guild, which meets monthly in Peterborough. Through his membership with the guild, Morris has participated in numerous woodturning competitions and contributed to the guild’s ornament decorations for their entry in the annual Festival of Trees held in Peterborough. He has won awards for his work in the novice and intermediate categories.
Preferring to work mostly with native and locally found wood, the both decorative and functional objects he creates range from vases, bowls, candle holders and lidded boxes to pens, whistling toy tops, Christmas ornaments and decorative mushrooms for the garden.
