Opening Reception: Saturday April 3, 1-2:30 pm

After his arrival from Thailand, Canadian artist Songsak Anantawan studied Art/Design and Art history at Ottawa’s Carleton University. He also studied painting for a period of time with Montreal artist, Seymour Segal.

Mr. Anantawan has been inspired by the works of many great Canadian impressionist and abstract artists. The landscapes, figures, still life and abstracts are done in oil and acrylic with brushes or palette knives. His innate, almost spiritual connection with his subjects produces paintings that are unique and vibrant. Most small sketches are painted outdoors. Many of his works are among private collections in Canada, U.S., Australia and New Zealand.

Artist’s Statement
If I were a poet, my first poetry would be about nature that could be trees, rivers, mountains or the Milky Way. Canadian landscapes with their dramatic changes throughout the year inspire me to record their beauty and fleeting moments. My paintings are my visual poetry. I attempt to capture forms of nature in many different ways so we can cherish and learn to respect it. I always feel that an individual piece of art should result from a perception within us. It has a "life" of its own and once meditated upon, gradually becomes an organism responding to our senses and feelings. I am determined to create that "life".
