7TH ANNUAL SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS JURIED SHOW
Juror: Olexander Wlasenko - Curator, The Station Gallery, Whitby

Works submitted by:
I.E. Weldon Secondary School (IEWSS)
St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School (STASS)
The Lindsay Gallery is pleased to provide the opportunity to showcase in a public art gallery the artwork being encouraged and developed by the art teachers in our area high schools. This annual exhibit of student art work attracts the highest number of visitors to the Gallery every year. It also demonstrates the high quality of art work being produced in our area high schools.
It took volunteers Bruce Young and John Humphries about two hours to arrange and hang the 31 pieces of art submitted by the Heads of the Art Departments at I.E. Weldon Secondary School, and St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School on Tuesday. Labels were produced by volunteer Claire Fisk.
It took the Juror another three hours the next day to select the Award Winners. The Juror was Olexander Wlasenko, Curator of The Station Gallery in Whitby, who stated that “This year’s selected works have a strong impact on the viewer – this is an overall impression. One by one, each work draws you in. This year’s calibre is particularly high and leaves a lasting impression. Thank you.”
Awards were selected in thirteen categories. These cash awards, generously provided by several community organizations listed below, will be presented to the students at the Opening Reception and Awards Presentations on Thursday, May 5 at 7 pm.

Juror Olexander Wlasenko is Curator of The Station Gallery in Whitby, ON.
He has also curated a number of exhibitions in recent years for The Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa. He is an experienced juror, lecturer and author of exhibition catalogues and numerous papers. He is an exhibiting artist in his own right and has had many solo exhibitions in public galleries.
