Board Changes

The Board, in September, accepted with regret the resignation of Janet Smith, Past President for many years. Janet's leadership on the Board continued over 25 years and through the leanest years, steadfastly pursuing the dream of a financially sustainable Gallery.

Iced Tea Party in Honour of Brenda Milner

On Wednesday, July 14, the Gallery held a 'retirement party' for Brenda Milner.

Brenda was one of the first Gallery art instructors and over her 40-year teaching career, has taught hundreds of students, both beginning, amateur artists and accomplished artists. Her enthusiasm and infectious humour attracted many followers who became her regular students year after year.

Brenda has also been a prolific artist in her own right. Her works have been displayed in the Gallery many times over the years and are in many private collections far and wide. She is a founding member of the Gallery. She will be greatly missed.

Brenda has asked us to thank everyone who was in attendance and for the kind words that were forwarded along. She greatly appreciates the love and kindness everyone showed.

Ontario Service Awards

Two Gallery Volunteers, Marg Bate and Dorothy Thompson, were presented with 2010 Ontario Service Awards by our MPP Rick Johnson at a special ceremony at the Armouries honouring all 2010 City recepients. The certificates and pins for the other two Gallery recipients, Mary Sullivan and Bruce Young, who were unable to attend the presentation ceremony, were delivered by President Margot Fawcett to them.

HELPFUL HINTS FROM GRANDMA'S GARDEN

by Marg Bate

Marg Bate with her book "Helpful Hints from Grandma's Garden"

Gardening tips gained from a lifetime of experience and expertise were condensed and simplified into a wonderful 36-page booklet, cerlox bound, with all the information that any gardener needs to know, whether a beginner or an expert, right at your fingertips.

Marg Bate's book is a sell out!Longtime member, Marg Bate, donated this manuscript to the Gallery in 2001, as a fundraising project. It was reprinted in May, by popular demand, in a new cerlox-bound edition with colour photos, and autographed copies were sold at $15 each.

This reprinted edition sold out in six weeks, thanks primarily to the author, Marg Bate. This fund-raising project netted the Gallery over $800. Preparatory work and cover design for this revised edition was done by Mary Sullivan, and printing arrangements were handled by Mary Jeffery. A sincere thank you to Marg and the two Marys for all the time and effort they put into this project.

Marion and Lloyd Larocque moved to Kingston in February. They supported the Gallery through all its years as active volunteers and donors. Although members miss their smiling faces, everyone wishes them well in their new home.
